New Suture Technology May Reduce Tissue Strangulation

2019-09-11

Teleflex Medical OEM, a global leader in specialized sutures, braids, and fibers, announces an innovative suture technology: Force Fiber Fusion® Suture. This “two-in- one” construct transitions from round suture to a flat braid center segment and back to round suture. It has a broader footprint and offers a more uniform distribution of pressure than similar suture. This may reduce tissue strangulation and a “cutting effect” in applications where tissue pull-through may be a concern.

Prepared from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), Force Fiber Fusion® Suture is softer and more pliable than similar products on the market.** The suture also is strong, durable, and lubricious. Fusion®  Suture is braided using a proprietary, continuous process that creates seamless transitions between each segment. Don’t confuse it with look-alike products that are simply a flat segment “sewn” onto two round sutures.

Compared to similar suture* on the market, Force Fiber Fusion® Suture has a lower knot profile and an average knot height that is ¼ the size. In addition, the height of Fusion™ Suture’s flat center section is 38% thinner than similar products. Force Fiber Fusion® Suture is cleared in the USA for approximation and/or ligation of soft tissue, including the use of allograft tissue for orthopedic procedures. It is offered in USP suture sizes 1 to 5 and a wide selection of color and pattern options. Widths, lengths, and patterns can be customized to meet specific requirements.
