For in vitro quantitative determination of procalcitonin in human serum or plasma.
CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
PCT is a parameter for the diagnosis and monitoring of bacterial inflammatory disease infection. The determination of PCT can be predicted as follows: ① as an acute parameter, it can be used to differentiate bacterial and non bacterial infections and inflammation. ② Monitoring patients at risk of infection (e.g., immunosuppression after surgery and organ transplantation, after multiple trauma) and patients requiring intensive care are monitored to detect the systemic effects of bacterial infection or to detect septic complications. ③ Objective to evaluate the clinical process and prognosis of severe inflammatory diseases.
