For in vitro quantitative determination of potassium in serum or plasma.  
CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Potassium in the human body is the main cation that maintains the physiological activities of cells, and plays an important role in maintaining cell metabolism, regulating body fluid osmotic pressure and acid-base balance. At the same time, it also maintains neuromuscular stress and the normal function of myocardium [1].
Increased serum potassium is seen in: acute renal failure; severe hemolysis or tissue damage; adrenal cortex hypofunction; aldosterone deficiency or long-term use of anti-aldosterone diuretics, etc. Decreased blood potassium is seen in: insufficient potassium intake, such as severe infections, chronic wasting diseases, etc.; increased potassium loss, such as severe vomiting or diarrhea, adrenal hyperfunction, etc.
