Usage: An ostomy pouching system is a medical device prosthetic that provides a means for the collection of waste from a surgically diverted biological system (colon, ileum, urinary) and the creation of a stoma. Advantage: Open-end pouches have a re-sealable end at the bottom of the pouch that can be opened by to drain the contents into a toilet. Can be rinsed and reused so that the patient doesn’t have to use a new bag every time. People with a colostomy placed in the higher part of the bowels also have a rather thin output, because the bowels have not been able to finish the process of thickening the stool, so drainable bags are also more suitable than closed-end pouches.
Different types of closuring systems exist:
  • Ancillary clamps (tail clips):   
The opening of the pouch is closed with a separate clip. When using this type of pouch, it is important for the patient to always carry a spare clip (in case of loss of the clip into toilets or trash receptacles when emptying the pouch).
  • Clip-less integrated closures:
Some manufacturers have introduced drainable pouches with a built-in tail closure that doesn't require a separate clip. Such integrated closures address the possible disadvantages of clips (loss) together with better comfort.
